The Engineer and previously Senior Project Manager, for Power Plant,Incinerators, fueled by Coal,Oil,Nuclear,Gas and associated De salination,Local serices of Town and Rail links.

How did you decide to work in your chosen field?

It chose me as I was told that not many people could Engineer plant and also knew the Financial risks, Estimated Costs, Project/Contract Knowledge and sustainability of Pay back.

Educational Path

Grammer School, Apprenticeship,Higher National plus Endorsements, Design and Technical Estimates of Large Power Projects.Astronomy and M.O.D work.University was not general in 1950's nor Day Release mine was three nights and Saturday morning.

What attracted you to the STEM Ambassadors scheme?

I was a I.Mech.E. Ambassidor for Schools on the Nineties to present day.

What do you like about being a STEM Ambassador?

Trying to encourage students into Science and Engineering built on this countries leading knowledge.

What do you see as the benefits of the STEM Ambassadors scheme?

I saw reuslts in Students who researched Photo Voltaic Cells in 1997/8 under my guidance for their personel input and idea. look where it is now as they forescast it. They went on to University.

STEM Ambassadors activities

Scientific Managment, Design of Bridges using their Elbows and Arms to demonstrate equal and opposite forces of Tyne and Sydney Harbour Bridge.Assembling Plastic tube and Velcro to prove it.

caught them almost asleep on their arms and hands and said you have already proved this possible.

What was the reaction of the young people you worked with?

F W Taylor's approach would help them in future, great designs are often everday in their view if they thought about it. Education is to fit you for work and life not necessarily what you would enjoy as a hobby.

What advice would you give to young people wanting to work in your field?

To thine own self be true (Shakespear), If you have nothing to do don't do it here. The Seat of learning has know end( U.M.I.S.T.).I am 77 next month and still learning.
