What's expected of me when I volunteer?
STEM Ambassadors are only required to volunteer for one activity per year. The length of the activity and type of involvement are up to you so this could be as little as a one hour talk or a brief morning activity in a school. The dates and times of activities vary so there should be a time and date to suit even the most busy workload.
How do I join?
To volunteer simply fill out this simple contact form with your details and we will contact you shortly and talk you through the brief induction process.
What is induction like?
To become a STEM Ambassador ( STEM Ambassador) you will be given a short induction. This involves:
- Providing you with information on STEM Outreach and the STEM Ambassadors scheme.
- Answering any questions you may have.
- Preparing you for working within a school environment.
- Organizing and completing a CRB check.
- Having an informal chat to outline the types of activities you would like to get involved with and the times which will be most convenient for you.
All this helps to make sure you get the most out of volunteering and are well prepared for any challenges you might face.
What topics do you cover in schools
All aspects of science, technology, engineering and maths are relevant. We focus on making these subjects more appealing to young learners. An important part of being a STEM Ambassador is providing young people with a role model to provide guidance, inspiration and even to answer their questions about careers in science, technology and engineering fields.
I have an idea for an activity/ club I'd like to run. How do I make it happen?
Sign up and contact us with your ideas and we'll help you to formulate a STEM Ambassador activity. We might even include you and your ideas in one of our Science and Engineering Days for schools in the region
I already do an activity for schools. Will Newcastle College STEM Outreach help me promote it and get more schools interested?
