What are STEM Ambassadors?
STEM Ambassadors are leading industry professionals who volunteer a few hours of their time each year helping encourage children in local schools to take up science, technology, engineering and maths subjects. These talented individuals help inspire the next generation of young scientists, mathematicians and engineers by providing educative and fun activities and talks in schools throughout the region.
What do STEM Ambassadors do?
STEM Ambassadors lead exciting and informative activities with school children and young people to break common misconceptions about science and technology subjects. Subjects which are often though of as being "difficult" or "hard to pass exams in." They show young people that these can be fascinating and enjoyable subjects with great career prospects.
STEM Ambassadors play a vital role in supporting schools and teachers by providing opportunities to enhance the curriculum, act as role models and provide guidance and inspiration to thousands of students across Tyne and Wear and Northumberland.
Why become a STEM Ambassador?
By volunteering to do just one activity a year you could help to inspire young people in your community and make a real difference to the career prospects and prosperity of the region for the next generation.
Strengthen your skills in presentation, planning and communication by giving talks leading discussions and preparing activities for a receptive and energetic audience.
Enjoy the sense of achievement after delivering an activity. Although you only need volunteer for just one activity per year many of our STEM Ambassadors find their work with Newcastle College STEM Outreach so rewarding they regularly want to do more.
Gain a fresh perspective on your work through the eyes of students. Many volunteers find their old enthusiasm rekindled by the work they do with Newcastle College STEM Outreach and go away with a new way of thinking about what they do in their day to day work.
