Supervisor: Ross Harrington
Organisation: Newcastle Univeristy: Dept. of Chemistry
Successful Applicant: Lewis Danks
School: The Kings Academy
Research Area: Crystallography / Chemistry
Length of Project: 4 weeks
Project Outline:
Over the last 10-15 years there has been a surge in the investigation of porous materials such as metal organic frameworks (MOFs) in an attempt to discover new materials for gas separation and storage, amongst other things. The purpose of this project will be to synthesise some new MOFs, using various methods, using X-ray crystallography to analyse their structures. This work follows on from previous Nuffield projects and final year undergraduate research.
Start Date: 20th July 2012
