Nuffield Placement 15 - Forensic Anthropolgy in Second Life
Supervisor: Dr. Tim Thompson
Organisation: Teesside University
Successful Applicant: Laura Goodfellow
School: Haydon Bridge High School
Research Area: Biological and Forensic Anthropology
Length of Project: 4 weeks
Project Outline:
The biological and forensic anthropologists at Teesside University undertake regular outreach and wider participation activities to a variety of participants. One area in which we are beginning to work is Second Life. We propose that one Nuffield student join us to develop a learning and resource centre for forensic anthropology within Second Life (on our TeesLife Island) which could be accessed by students and interested members of the public from around the world. This would involve the collation of information (such as images, websites, news stories and academic publications) into a variety of formats appropriate to Second Life (such as posters, Powerpoint presentations, etc). The student would need to create learning tasks for the virtual world too. The student would work within the Skeletal Investigation Laboratory (SKIL), would work alongside and in cooperation with current PhD researchers and research active members of staff, and would participate in our regular team meetings.
Start Date: tbc
