About Nuffield Foundation Bursaries
Nuffield Bursaries offer aspiring young scientists the opportunity to explore their chosen field of science, technology, engineering or maths during a 4 to 6 week summer placement. North East placements are offered by leading local and national businesses, scientific industrial research institutes and all of our excellent local universities.
Students studying a first year Advanced or Higher STEM course should apply, including vocational as well as academic courses. Students receive £80 per week towards travel and other expenses.
Students are expected to work on well defined projects which contribute, in a real way, toward the work of their host organisation. These projects have clear goals and achievable outcomes within the 4 to 6 weeks of the placement enabling students to gain a more valid insight into their chosen field with a sense of achievement and personal and professional growth.

Newcastle College STEM Outreach are the regional organisers for Nuffield Foundation Bursaries in the North East. The scheme aims to offer around 1000 funded student placements each year throughout the UK.
