Children use maths every day – without realising it! They budget their pocket money, measure ingredients when baking fairy cakes and monitor the football league tables. Even the rhythm and melody of music is based on maths.

So, what about using maths to explore architecture?

Mathtastic!

For KS3 and 6th form

KS3:

Looking for something a bit different for your year 7 and 8 maths classes? Why not bring them to ‘Mathstastic’ at the Centre for Life, where from 7th-25th June they can experience two-hour sessions of hands-on maths including an outdoor maths trail in Times Square, designed to encourage teamwork and incorporating a wide range of mathematical skills, a live maths show in our theatre and a large selection of interactive maths puzzles, games and problems.

‘Mathstastic’ costs £4 per pupil and one teacher goes free with every five students.

For more information please call (0191) 243 8243 or e-mail education@life.org.uk

6th Form:

‘Serious Maths, Serious Fun’ is the new 6th form strand of our popular ‘Mathstastic’ programme of hands-on maths for schools. As part of a day of challenging and creative maths activities, students will be shown demonstrations from our live maths show and have the chance to try out various interactive maths puzzles and problems before being challenged to come up with their own puzzle or demonstration. Time will be given to develop their new activity with support from our experienced team of ‘Mathstastic’ demonstrators and the finale of the day will be a session where groups present their demonstrations and share their views on what makes maths exciting and engaging.

‘Serious Maths, Serious Fun’ will be held on 1st and 2nd July - for more information please call (0191) 243 8243 or e-mail education@life.org.uk
