An Introduction to the Zooplankton of the North Sea.
Introductory PowerPoint presentation. Students will learn about life-cycles, feeding and migration of zooplankton. The crucial role of zooplankton in oceanic food-webs, and their importance to fisheries will be explained. Zooplankton as indicators of global climate change. Practical work will involve identification of live and preserved plankton specimens; estimating abundance per unit volume of water; investigating plankton behavior; estimating feeding rates.
Where: Dove marine Laboratory, Cullercoats (field station).
